Philippa Girling is Chief Risk Officer at a challenger bank, Varo Bank. She has over 25 years of experience in the global financial services industry and is a recognized risk management leader in the industry.
Prior to joining Varo Money, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at Investors Bank. Prior to Investors Bank, Girling was Senior Vice President and Chief Business Risk Officer at Capital One Commercial Bank and previously held Global Head of Operational Risk roles at Morgan Stanley and Nomura.
In addition to authoring two operational risk textbooks, she is also an active public speaker on risk management topics. She was named one of the decade’s “Top Fifty Faces of Operational Risk.” She is also a member of the RMA Board of Directors.
Girling holds New York Bar and Financial Risk Manager qualifications and was recognized in 2014 by Working Mother magazine as one of the top 100 Working Mothers in America.
Girling earned an undergraduate law degree from the University of East Anglia, UK, and a PhD in global affairs from Rutgers University.
